How To Clean Faucet Head Without Vinegar

Have you ever been in the shower and the water just starts shooting you in the face from all directions because the holes in the shower head are clogged?

Come on, I can't be the only one this happens to. I always find myself wiping my eyes and spitting out water because the water is coming out forcefully right at my face.

But then it barely trickles out of the holes that wouldn't hit me in the face like a super soaker water gun.

So if you find yourself in this same predicament, you might be shocked to find out that the only thing wrong with your shower is that the shower head needs to be cleaned. No worries, though. We've got you covered.

Here is How to Clean a Shower Head:

1. Bag It

This is probably the most simple method to cleaning your shower head. The next time you are in the shower, and you realize that your shower is spitting at you, just glance up. If you see that certain holes are clogged, then you'll know the shower head is in need of a good cleaning.

Don't feel bad. It happens to all of us! And it shouldn't be surprising that a lot of people actually forget to clean their shower head. That is until it is squirting them in the eye like a powerful water gun.

Well, the next time as soon as you get out of the shower (so you don't forget) go to your pantry and pull out a plastic bag. A freezer bag or storage bag should do the trick.

Then fill the bag about halfway with white vinegar. You don't want the bag to overflow.

Once you have your bag full of vinegar, you take the bag and place it around the shower head and attach it with a rubber band.

Allow the bag to sit for about an hour. Then return and remove the bag.

Next, you'll want to turn the water on to flush any vinegar out of the showerhead. Finish it up by polishing the showerhead so it'll be clean and shiny. That is all there is to it.

2. Deep Clean the Shower Head

Now, some people have shower heads that have an arm attached to them so they can actually unscrew the shower head. It should actually disconnect at the arm.

If not, then check the manual to see how to properly remove it. It is also recommended that you use a wrench instead of pliers to remove the shower head. The reason is you don't want to damage the finish on the shower head.

Once you get the shower head off, you'll want to run it under a faucet to rinse any goop that may be inside of it, out.

Then you'll want to take a toothbrush and scrub the shower head. It is a good idea to use water and vinegar when scrubbing as this loosens up the dirt inside of the shower head.

Next, you could use a toothpick or even a safety pin to dig down into the crevasses of the showerhead and remove even more dirt.

Then you'll want to soak the parts of the shower head in vinegar over-night. Vinegar is great for loosening dirt and making blockages dissolve.

Once this is complete, rinse the shower head again, put it back together, and turn it on in the shower so you can see how thorough your cleaning was.

3. If It Cleans the Oven, It'll Clean Your Shower

I remember the first time I ever used oven cleaner. It was to actually clean my oven, but it was very brutal stuff. It smelled strong, it was hard on my hands, but it did get my oven clean.

So when I realized that oven cleaner would work on my shower head, I wasn't all that surprised.

However, I will give you a few safety tips first.

First, be sure to wear gloves. Oven cleaner is really hard on your skin because it is so potent.

Next, wear a mask if at all possible. It is usually heavily scented to the point it could actually take your breath if breathed in at the wrong time. I'm speaking from experience on this one.

Finally, don't leave the oven cleaner on too long. You don't want it to damage the finish of your shower head.

Now that we have that all established, put on your gloves and grab your oven cleaner. Once you've got it, you can leave the shower head in place. Just spray the oven cleaner on the shower head thoroughly.

Next, you need to wait about 20 minutes. When the time is up, be sure to rinse your shower head thoroughly. Turn it on and make sure it is working properly and functioning as a clean shower head should.

Then do a happy dance because your shower will no longer be shooting you in the eye first thing in the morning when you sleepily climb into it hoping for a nice, easy wake-up call.

4. Baking Soda in the Shower

I think we've all heard that baking soda is an excellent cleaner. People love it because it is natural, abrasive, and cheap. At least that is why I love it.

So it didn't come as a huge surprise when I realized that I could use baking soda to clean my shower head. You begin by taking some baking soda and mixing it with water. When you do this it should form a nice paste.

Now, if it becomes too runny, then just add some more baking soda. If it isn't becoming a paste and remaining powdery, then you'll need to add more water.

Next, you apply the paste to your shower head. You'll just want to rub it all over the shower head (especially around the nozzles) to make sure that it is thoroughly coated.

Then you allow the paste to sit from anywhere from 20 to 30 minutes. Once the time is up, you'll want to rinse your shower head thoroughly.

Again, be sure to try out the actual shower head to make sure that it is spraying as it should after being cleaned.

Once it is done, hopefully, your shower head will sparkle on the inside and be clean on the inside so you can enjoy a nice even flow of water when showering the next time.

5. Bring a Coke to the Shower

I knew that this was a cleaning option, but to be honest, it freaked me out a little. When I was a younger girl, I loved drinking Coca-Cola.

Truthfully, I would go to McDonald's just to get a Coke. I didn't want the food. I loved having a fountain Coca-Cola.

Then one day, I was at a friend of mine's house. She had a family member who was a police officer, and he saw me drinking a Coke.

He said, " You know, you really should stop drinking that stuff."

I said, "Why?"

He then proceeded to tell me how he used it to clean blood off of a highway whenever they had bad traffic accidents. It hit me then, did I really want to be consuming something that could take blood off of a highway? What was it doing to my insides?

I haven't had many Coca-Colas since that day.

But I have heard it does wonders when it comes to cleaning around the house too. So why wouldn't it work great for cleaning a shower head?

Now, if you decide to clean your shower head with Coca-Cola, it is very simple. You just remove the shower head from its place on the shower wall.

Then you pour some Coca-Cola into a bowl. You dip the shower head into the bowl. Rub the shower head to see if any dirt and grime are coming off or out of it.

If it isn't, then dip the shower head again. Once you are satisfied with the cleanliness of the showerhead, you'll want to rub it clean.

Then you'll want to rinse the showerhead thoroughly to make sure it is functioning like you want it to. Also, you'll want to be sure that the shower head isn't left sticky from being dipped in a sugary soft drink either.

Finally, you'll dry your shower head and shine it up. Don't forget to put it back on your shower wall to check and see if it is functioning like you want it to be. That is all there is to cleaning your shower head with a common household soft drink.
